25 Books I Want to Read in 2025

25 Books I Want to Read in 2025

Hello reader friends! Welcome to another blog post! I'm sorry this one's a bit late. I started classes last week, so I had to focus more on that. I'm going to try and remain consistent though, uploading posts every two Fridays, so stay tuned for more content!

This week, I want to share with you 25 books I want to read in 2025! For each book, I'm going to give you my understanding of what the book is about (I could be wrong, as I haven't read it) and why I want to read the book. They won't be in any specific order. This list will just give you an idea of 25 books I want to read this year. I hope you enjoy!

1) The Dagger and the Flame by Catherine Doyle

What I believe it's about: I think this book is about a 17- or 18-year-old girl whose mom is murdered. After this tragedy, the m.c. wants to enact revenge, and along the way she finds herself in an enemies-to-lovers situation with the person who's sent to kill her.
Why I want to read this: I want to read this because I liked the cover. Simple as that. I got an email from Barnes and Noble a few months ago about new releases at the time, and this book's cover was the first thing I saw. It's absolutely beautiful, and I just knew I needed to buy it. I even bought the Barnes and Noble YA Book Club pick of the month, so my copy has artwork on the end papers and foiling on the black case laminate.

2) Four Ruined Realms by Mai Corland

What I believe it's about: This book is the sequel to Five Broken Blades, so I assume it follows the same cast of characters and continues where that book leaves off. I won't spoil that ending here.
Why I want to read this: I want to read this book because it's the sequel to the book that literally shattered my existence.

3) Book Lovers by Emily Henry

What I believe it's about: This book is about a woman named Nora who is depicted as the "woman from the city" in Romcoms. Usually, the man from the city ventures to a small town and meets/falls in love with her, leaving behind his old girlfriend and life in the city. Nora is that woman those men left behind. I think it's about her falling in love with some kind "rival" editor, even though she's a literary agent.
Why I want to read this: I want to read this book because I liked Beach Read and Funny Story, and I want to read about the woman that's usually left behind finding happiness with her own romance.

4) People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

What I believe it's about: I believe this book is about two best friends who met years prior to the book starting, and they've been taking vacations with themselves for years until they stopped being friends all of a sudden. In the present day, Poppy, I think her name is, convinces Alex, I think, to go on one last vacation with him, and they fall in love along the way.
Why I want to read this: Same reason as Book Lovers. Also, I think this one has the highest chance of being my favourite EH book because I like the friends-to-lovers trope. I hope this one is great.

5) Happy Place by Emily Henry

What I believe it's about: I think this is about two people who were engaged, but they broke it off and never told their friends. So, when they go to their friend's beach house like every year, the two of them decide to fake date and lie to their friends about still being together. Along the way, they end up falling back in love with each other.
Why I want to read this: I'm beating a dead horse by telling you the reason a third time. I will say though that I'm not usually a second chance person, but I think this'll be a lot of fun.

6) Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry

What I believe it's about: I'm pretty sure this book is going to be similar to Beach Read because it's about two writers. I think they're going to be competing to write a memoir or something for an older woman.
Why I want to read this: It's EH's next book. Self-explanatory.

7) Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

What I believe it's about: Similar to Beach Read, I'm pretty sure this book is about two writers. And it's also a second chance romance, where the two characters fell in love years ago and they reconnect in the present day, falling in love again.
Why I want to read this: This book, as far as I've heard, deals with heavier and mature themes. The book I'm writing now features darker themes as well, so I'm curious to see how Tia Williams writes her character's trauma and recovery. Also, I read her other book A Love Song for Ricki Wilde, and I enjoyed it, so I want to know how this one is.

8) Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan

What I believe it's about: I think this is another second chance romance about these two people who were married but ended up getting a divorce. They're still co-parenting and have a pretty good relationship, but they still have feelings for each other, leading to their romance.
Why I want to read this: Same as with Seven Days in June, I've heard this book covers heavier themes, and I want to see how the author writes them and maybe get inspired for my own writing.

9) Bloodguard by Cecy Robson

What I believe it's about: Honestly, I'm not too sure about this one. I think it's set in a Roman Empire inspired world and is about a man who has to survive the different battles in the arena. And along the way, he falls in love with a woman. But besides that, I literally have no idea.
Why I want to read this: Someone bought it for me for Christmas because they thought I'd like the sprayed edges.

10) What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez

What I believe it's about: This book is about a girl who ventures to Egypt to figure out the mystery behind her parents' deaths. I think.
Why I want to read this: The cover is absolutely stunning. Yes, that is why I want to read this book.

11) If He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin

What I believe it's about: I think this book is about a girl telling the story of how her boyfriend or something died, but he wouldn't have if he was with her the night he died.
Why I want to read this: I like the collector's edition, and also, I want to cry while reading at least 1 book this year.

12) Otherworldly by F.T. Lukens

What I believe it's about: I think this book is a queer fantasy romance about a person (not sure of their gender) falling for their familiar.
Why I want to read this: I bought it because of the cover. I thought it was so beautiful.

13) The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

What I believe it's about: This book is about a magical circus that only comes around at night, and it's the venue for these two rival magicians that end up falling in love.
Why I want to read this: This book is my favourite BookTuber's favourite book of all time. I've also heard this author's writing is very lyrical and beautiful, so I want to read it for myself and possibly be inspired.

14) Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

What I believe it's about: Our main character, Elisabeth, is raised in a library where the books are "alive" or something, and one day one of the books goes missing, and she has to get it back. I also think she falls in love along the way.
Why I want to read this: I bought it, so I may as well read it.

15) Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

What I believe it's about: I honestly don't know. I think the main character's name is Lazlo Strange, and this fantasy world has Gods and Demigods. But I don't know anything about the plot.
Why I want to read this: Same as the last reason honestly. I bought it, so I may as well read it.

16) The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

What I believe it's about: I think this is a historical romance novel about two people who are telepaths. I think there's also a part of the story where we're seeing a past relationship between the guy m.c. and his first love.
Why I want to read this: The cover is pretty, and my favourite BookTuber recommended it.

17) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

What I believe it's about: It's occurring to me that I actually don't know the plot of this book. All I know is that it's a Jane Austen novel, and her books were pretty influential in the romance genre.
Why I want to read this: I've never read a Jane Austen novel, so I thought I'd start with, what seems to be, her most popular book.

18) A Dreadful Splendor by B.R. Meyers

What I believe it's about: A gothic murder mystery with a romance aspect to it.
Why I want to read this: I want to get into more thrillers, since I read a few last year. Why not try this one that blends both thriller and romance? Hopefully, it's not like the book Verity.

19) Six of Crows by Legh Bardugo

What I believe it's about: These six teenagers are commissioned to go on a heist.
Why I want to read this: This book is sooooo popular, and I want to read it to understand the hype. I hope I will join it.

20) Belladonna by Adalyn Grace

What I believe it's about: This teenage girl falls in love with Death personified.
Why I want to read this: I've never read a gothic romance, and when I saw this, I thought it looked pretty intriguing. Also, I reeeally want to buy the UK hardcover, but resellers on Pangobooks sell it for so much money. I'll probably read this on Kindle or Audible, then decide if I want to buy the UK cover.

21) The Night is Defying by Chloe C. Peñaranda

What I believe it's about: I know this is a continuation of The Stars Are Dying, which I read last year and was disappointed by. I suspect the plot will pick up where the last book ended.
Why I want to read this: I read the last book, and even though I didn't love it, I didn't find it atrocious, so I'll keep reading to see where the story goes. And also, because this edition is stunning. I may not care for the first book, but that book is a fucking beauty to look at. And so is this one.

22) Deep End by Ali Hazelwood

What I believe it's about: A swimmer and diver fall in love in college.
Why I want to read this: I've never read an Ali Hazelwood book, so I decided I'll try her writing with her newest book. Am I potentially setting myself up for failure since this one is said to be steamier than her other books? Yes. Will I still try to read it? Also yes.

23) Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez

What I believe it's about: I have no idea, and I don't want to know, to be honest.
Why I want to read this: Just for the Summer was one of my two/three five star reads last year, so I want to read anything else by Abby Jimenez, including her new work.

24) The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

What I believe it's about: These gifted kids join the FBI to solve different cases.
Why I want to read this: Like I said a few books ago, I want to read more thrillers, and that includes Young Adult thrillers.

25) The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso

What I believe it's about: I think this is a sapphic fantasy/sci-fi romance, but I don't know the plot.
Why I want to read this: The cover intrigued me, and also, I've never heard anyone talk about it. This year, I also want to read more books that I haven't heard people on the internet talk about.
